How to Prepare for an Alcohol-Free Girls Trip

Do you have a girls’ trip coming up?

You know the ones! Where you're on the lake, at the beach, or at the cabin and is typically a drink fest.

I’ve been on many of these girls’ trips and I always equated drinking with them.

When I wanted to stop drinking but I still wanted to go on girl trips I thought… HOW DO I DO THIS?!

Over time and trial/error, I’ve figured out how to go…

Have a blast and really own my own decisions not to drink without judging anyone else.

Now I know how to have a great time without drinking with everyone else.

Here are my tips and tricks that help me navigate the girls’ trip alcohol-free, even if you're with a group where there's a lot of drinking going on.

Tip 1: Pre-decide

You have got to know ahead of time what you were going to do, what your boundaries are, and if you're going to be drinking less or not at all.

I have for me I find it so much easier to just not drink at all because it doesn't even get that cravings loop started again.

I just love being alcohol-free.

I’ve learned that we really cannot decide when we get there.

We don’t want to go and ‘get the vibe’, ‘go with the flow’ or ‘play it by ear’ because if you do that the flow typically has been drinking, and that's just too easy to go back to what’s familiar.

Tip 2: pre-planning

Once you’ve pre-decided you're not drinking I'm or you want to drink less, you definitely want to go in prepared with some alcohol free, 0 proof alternatives.

I want to show you some of my favourites today because there really are many on the market out there.

Mingle Mocktails (10% off) use: 10SOBERSIS

I love the brand Mingle mocktail.

The creator Laura has had so much success because she herself wants to socialize and have a drink in her hand that's not alcohol.

They recently put their awesome mocktails in these travel size cans so it's perfect if you're packing a cooler to go to the beach, putting them in your suitcase, or if you just need something that's easy to travel.

They even have four different flavours! Cranberry Cosmo, Blackberry Hibiscus Bellini, Cucumber Melon Mojito & Blood Orange Elderflower.

Gruvi NA Prosecco (15% off) use: SOBERSIS

Now if you want to get fancy and you're going on a girls trip or hosting one of with my friends I would recommend the brand Groovy.

They have a dry Prosecco and it feels so awesome to pour one of these into a beautiful glass, have a toast, or drink one by the fire with everyone else while they're on their third or or glass of wine or champagne.

I also love my H2O self Seltzer Waters.

The list of alternatives really is huge and I can spend a whole post maybe in the future showing you all my favorites but that's the thing…

After you’ve pre decided that you're not drinking you've got to pre-plan for what you ARE drinking.

You don't want to get there and be blindsided, feel left out, or deprived.

I get it and you don't have to be!

It's a mindset and it's a preparedness issue so make sure to pre-plan before you go!

Tip 3: Connection

Connection is SO key.

Really going on this journey with other like-minded women who are also navigating these tricky, crazy waters of girls' trips and traveling without alcohol is a game-changer.

You’ve got to know you're not alone.

I know how tricky it can be to be amongst all of my drinking friends… but I don't want to be judged for not drinking just like I don't want to judge other people for drinking.

It is reassuring though to know I’ve got a remnant of sober-minded sisters behind me who are all going this alternate route of living alcohol-free and totally present in your own life.

Tip 4: Plan something fun for yourself on these trips

When you're not drinking and will be hangover-free think of all the things that you can do that you couldn't do if you were nursing a hangover the next day!

For example, when I'm on girls’ trips and everyone's drinking at night by the fire pit or on the boat I’m just sipping my Mingle Mocktail and I'm having a great time but…

As the night wears on I'm feeling better and better about my choice to be alcohol-free because I also know I'm going to beat regret-free and hangover-free.

I know that I'm not going to wake up at 3 a.m. with a dry mouth and a headache.

I know that I can get up before probably everybody else and take a great walk on the beach, journal, and quiet time on the back patio by myself before everyone gets up and starts reaching for the coffee to undo the hangover.

That's one of the things I love to do.

I also try to schedule some self-care time while on girls’ trips.

If everyone's going to a winery or a tasting somewhere maybe I'll schedule a massage during that time.

You really have to think about yourself in these situations where you can still go connect with your friends, have fun but really honor your choice to be alcohol-free because it feels like the best lifestyle choice for you.

So again pre-decide, pre-plan, make sure you're connected, and then plan some neat things for yourself to look forward to so that you don't feel like you're missing out.

I hope these tips and tricks were helpful to you!

I hope you go on all your girls’ trips sober-minded, totally present, and have a great time because you can without alcohol!

Your sis,

Jenn 💕
