How “Small Wins” Create Momentum In Your Sober Minded Journey

When you are trying to break or change a habit it is really easy to get overwhelmed.

Especially if you feel like you're not getting any momentum.

One way to build momentum is to create small wins for yourself.

I know for me in my relationship with drinking, I lost a lot of trust in myself to follow through with promises I would make myself.

Part of creating small wins is the follow-through.

Even if it seems super tiny, it can be a huge step for you.

When you intentionally create small wins for yourself you begin to rebuild your self-esteem, self-respect, and start to trust that you will do what you say you're going to do.

It's like an internal boundary and internal integrity.

An example of a small win that is super easy to do is to drink more water.

You can say you're going to drink more water, set a goal and follow through with this small change.

That's a small win.

If you've got a goal and you're reaching it on a daily basis you’re building momentum for yourself.

Another example is to set a goal to take your makeup off every night.

Again it seems so small but nothing is too small when you're trying to get the flywheel started.

Also, I know when I was drinking that the last priority was to take my makeup off at night.

It was never that much so I would say I’ll just take it off tomorrow morning, but now it's a part of my self-care routine and a small win I’ve created.

It builds momentum in my life that really points me in the right direction.

Other examples…

  • going to bed earlier

  • having a really good sleep routine

  • maybe for you it’s walking

  • a workout schedule that you're consistent in

Whatever these small wins are, look at them as little deposits in your account of building trust in your ability to follow through.

Once you have momentum you’ll start to say “I can do this”!

You’ll see you can do things that are typically out of the norm for you.

If you're anything like me, drinking for me was something I was doing on autopilot.

I would always make good intentions and promises in the morning then blow past them almost every evening.

So part of building a small win is even changing that habit.

I can tell you more about how to break or change your drinking habit in the 21 Day Reset if you are interested.

You don’t have to do this alone! www.sobersis.com/21daychallenge

The Reset starts at the beginning of every month and we will be talking about how to break or change that habit, get off of autopilot, and how to handle your cravings.

…but I've got to tell you there really is something to these “small wins”.

So think about this today.

What small win can you create for yourself?

Make it something that you know you can succeed in to build your confidence, momentum, and ability to follow through.

You’ve got this,

Jenn
